We're Ready and Waiting

This past weekend found us on Long Island visiting with Liz and Bryan. It was a big day on Saturday as the furniture for the baby's room was being delivered. Bryan has been working tediously on this room in preparation for this day and it was all ready and waiting for the entry of the crib. To really get an appreciation for all the work he's done, it might be good to show you a picture of the way the room looked when they bought the house. Bob and Michael had helped Bryan pull up this disgusting carpeting. The green on the walls was truly a sight to behold. There was nothing nice about this room. It was going to take a lot of "vision" to transform it. But if there's one thing Liz and I have, it's vision.....so let the "visioning" begin.

Before he started the work, the room had no closet so that was step one. Bryan built the closet. Watching this work in progress, I'm now convinced Bryan can do anything. Since it was a small room with little or no character, we suggested he do some wainscoting treatment on the wall. He liked the idea and went about getting the job done. It's just amazing to witness the transformation of this room. Once you start adding some details to a room, it makes a box become a "room". Years ago, when I had Michael, it was all in the wallpaper and the borders. Now it's more in the decorative moldings and paint colors.

Once the furniture was delivered, we began the task of putting the dust ruffle, sheet and bumper pads on the crib. The dust ruffle had to be ironed which wasn't an easy task because it had a box pleat in it. Anyone who irons knows that this is a real pain. As soon as it was done, we put it in the crib and then realized it wouldn't lay properly unless the mattress was on its bottom rung. This meant that Bryan had to come in and, with some stupid kind of wrench, had to take out the bolts and lower the mattress. By this time, the dust ruffle was all wrinkled and had to be ironed again. So as they say in writing, "it was back to the ironing board." Now the dust ruffle fit properly and the sheet was put on as well as the bumper pad. We moved in the rug and the rocking chair and the changing table and it was complete. I didn't get to take pictures that night of the finished product because it was too dark by then and we hadn't bought lamps for the room as of yet. Bryan was nice enough to take the pictures for me in the morning and here's the finished product.

He did add a nice touch for me. When Michael was born, someone gave him a Gund stuffed bear that he called Dolly. I don't even know how this bear got this name but it always remained Dolly. The Dolly we still have here, hardly has any fuzz left on it because he used it so much. As one of the baby's gifts, I just had to go out and buy a new Dolly for the new baby. Bryan surprised me with this picture of "Dolly in the Crib". Now the room is official. Dolly has arrived. All we need now is our bundle of joy and the fun will begin. I can't wait.
