Happy 4th of July!!!!!

If you're an American, is there any better holiday than the 4th of July? I'm sure when you even think of this date, great memories come back to you of fourth of July's past whether you were at a baseball game, a family barbeque or the beach. Whatever the case, I'm sure you had fun.

Every year in Washington Crossing, they hold what's called The Revolutionary Run....a 10K race along the river and through our state park. For the past twelve years, Bob has run in this race so it's usually how we start our day. As we get older, I get less and less excited about him running but he continues to insist on doing it. Lately he's been working so many hours and really hasn't had time to properly train for it but he still did well. As far as I'm concerned, if you finish, you've done well. As far as he's concerned, finishing means nothing....it's how long it takes you to finish. His favorite race was the year Michael ran with him but, since the World Series of Poker usually occurs during this holiday weekend, I can't foresee that happening again any time soon. One of my favorite things is that they give out a commemorative t-shirt each year and Bob has a collection of all of them. This was the logo on this year's shirt. This year's race was the 28th Annual Run so it started six years before we moved here.

I always used to take Sarah with me and now that she's gone, Belle comes along. While Sarah was all about eating, Belle is all about being outside. I told her the night before that we were going to the park in the morning and as soon as I got up, she knew she was going someplace good. She is such a strikingly beautiful dog and at least five people came over to me at the park and told me how beautiful she was. I was definitely the proud mother. And to think this beautiful and loving creature was one day away from being euthanized before she was rescued. Here's a picture of Bob at about the 5 mile mark. And here's a picture of Belle so happy that he finished.

Our's is a very patriotic town not only in name but in location as this was the actual site of the famous crossing of the Delaware River by George Washington during the Revolutionary War. It was the Battle of Trenton and took place on Christmas Day of 1776, not too long after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Everywhere you turn in this town, there are reminders of that famous day in American history. There's a huge statue at the foot of the bridge which commemorates this event, reminding all of the runners how far we've come with our independence. This is a picture of the famous painting that the statue was designed after. It's hard to imagine that we live exactly where this event took place. They re-enact the crossing here each year on Christmas Day....provided the river isn't frozen.

So on this most auspicious day, I'd like to wish America a very happy birthday. We've certainly come a long way. So that's how we spent our day. How did you spend yours? That's what the comment section is for. Looking forward to reading about your day. Hope it was full of fireworks!

No fireworks for us on the 4th, just a day at the beach, hanging out with Ken and Laura, filets and salads for dinner, and early to bed as we had to leave for Bob's art show at 6 (^%#@!*%) AM!
